Jal S. Jassawalla is a senior executive who has founded, developed and managed global, high-technology, medical-device businesses. He is currently Chairman & Managing Director of MedDevice Strategies, LLC. Previously he was President and Chief Executive Officer and also Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of World Heart Corporation (2000 -2011). He was a founder and Corporate Vice President of Novacor Medical Corporation (1980 – 1988) which was acquired by Baxter Healthcare Corporation in 1998. He served as Vice President, Baxter Healthcare Corporation, Novacor Division, from 1998 through 1999. At Novacor and Baxter, Mr. Jassawalla led a multidiscliplinary team responsible for the development and approval of the Novacor Left Ventricular Assist System (LVAS). Experience includes private and public company management, strategic planning, product research and development, regulatory affairs, clinical trials, therapy adoption, cost management, equity financing, mergers and acquisitions and investor relations. Much of this experience has encompassed active implantable (Class III) medical devices, including the commercialization of the first clinically applied, implantable, electrical left ventricular assist device (LVAS). Mr. Jassawalla received his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, with specialization In Finance. He has been awarded over thirty US and International patents for medical devices and has more than a hundred publications in the field of cardiac assist systems. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering.
